Jeremy Swayman is 25. The NHL Network recently named him as the fourth-best goalie in the league. He is a restricted free agent. Swayman should be a quality candidate for an offer sheet.

But we all know he isn’t.

Boston Hockey Now’s Andrew Fantuccio explains why there’s no risk to the Bruins that a team would sign Swayman to an offer sheet. Read his Swayman story here.

“At a minimum, any team that makes an offer to Swayman will need to be able to supply the Bruins with two first-round picks, a second-round pick, and a third-round pick, all of which must be their own selections,” Fantuccio writes. “Based on that alone, the Bruins have little reason to worry. Only a few teams are currently able to supply them with the proper compensation. But even then, most have one issue or another in their way.”

Swayman is probably going to land a contract that pays him $8 million or more and compensation is based on the contract value.

Red Wings in Case You Missed It

Former Red Wings goalie Magnus Hellberg lands with another NHL team. Other ex-Detroit players still looking for work.

Jonatan Berggren opens up about the disappointment he felt when he spent most of last season in the American Hockey League.

Red Wings Offseason

It may feel like it has taken a while for Simon Edvinsson to be ready for full-time service with the Red Wings. However, only nine players from the 2021 NHL first round have played more NHL games than Edvinsson at this point in their careers. Owen Powers (No. 1 overall, Buffalo) and Luke Hughes (No. 4, New Jersey) are the only first-round defensemen with more NHL games.
