Critics Pan Movie Starring Red Wings Hall of Famer
Hull featured in hockey film Minor Leaguer
Detroit Red Wings legend Brett Hull didn’t spend much of his playing career toiling in the minor leagues. He wound up a big-league superstar, Hart Tophy winner, multiple Stanley Cup winner, and a Hockey Hall of Famer to boot.
However, if you’re basing the future of Hull’s acting career on his performance in the film Minor Leaguer, Hollywood isn’t going to be calling him up anytime soon.
Hull and IIHF Hockey Hall of Famer Teemu Selanne are the stars of this B-movie. And if the B stands for bad movie, then it is an accurate descriptive.
In the film, Selanne purchases a minor-league hockey team and installs himself as coach-GM. Hull, for no other reason it would appear than to be annoying to Selanne, then purchases a rival team in the same league. And the battle is on.
Hull Blames Roenick For Feud With Selanne
In the film, Hull claims that the feud between the two Hall of Famers is the fault of Jeremy Roenick. Hull explains that it was Roenick who put a mouse in Selanne’s hockey bag at the 1993 NHL All-Star Game. He adds that Selanne has mistakenly been blaming him for the prank ever since.
Finnish film critic Elias Juuti describes Minor Leaguer as “embarrassing to watch.”
The plot of the film appears to be to offer the two ex-NHL stars opportunity after opportunity to brag about their greatness.

“If the whole point of the movie is childish millionaires slobbering at each other, the result can’t be anything but zero class,” Juuti writes. “The repeated cursing must have been aimed at the imagined hockey genre.
“It’s just the kind of movie full of bad jokes that you can play in the background of home chores.”
Don’t take our word for it, though. If you want to make your own assessment of Minor Leaguer, it’s available through Prime Video and Apple TV.
