Center Ryan Johansen, through his agent, is clear that he intends to make every effort to block the Philadelphia Flyers’ attempt to terminate his contract.

The Flyers are saying they uncovered grounds to terminate the deal, citing a “material breach.”

Johansen came to the Flyers in a trade last March.

Flyers have evidently discovered grounds to terminate Johansen’s contract, citing a “material breach”, Overhardt is fighting back on behalf of his client. Johansen showed up in Philadelphia with an injury, meaning the Flyers couldn’t send him to the AHL. That had been their plan. He didn’t play after the trade.

“Ryan Johansen has a severe hockey injury that requires extensive surgery which has been scheduled,” agent Kurt Overhardt said in a prepared statement on Tuesday afternoon.

“Since being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, Ryan has worked in good faith with the Club, its medical staff, and authorized third-party physicians. The Flyers’ attempt to terminate Ryan’s contract is disappointing. We have been in contact with the NHLPA and will defend Ryan and protect his rights.”

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

The Grand Rapids Griffins signing of left wing Carson Battle fits into the team’s effort to have a bigger team. Battle is 6-foot-3, 207 pounds. Battle played college hockey at Wisconsin.

New Red Wings, such as goalie Cam Talbot, talk about what it’s like to live your life on the run. The Red Wings are Talbot’s eighth team.

Four Detroit players landed in the top 50 of EP Rinkside’s Top 100 NHL prospects. Will any of them play with Detroit this season? Probably Marco Kasper has the best shot.

Red Wings Offseason

Patrick Kane has been skating with a group of players near his home in Chicago. One of them is Michigan native Frank Nazar who hopes to make the Chicago Blackhawks this season.
