The Daily: Penguins, Jets Trade Top Prospects; Buchelnikov OT Tally
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Winnipeg Jets swapped key prospects Thursday with Rutger McGroarty going to Pittsburgh and Brayden Yager heading to Winnipeg.
The deal happened because McGroarty was going back to the University of Michigan because the Jets wouldn’t guarantee he would play in the NHL this season.
According to PuckPedia, the Penguins signed McGroarty to a three-year entry-level deal with a $950,000 salary cap hit. The AAV is $1.45 million including a $95,000 signing bonus and $500,000 in “A” performance bonuses. McGroarty is a strong, hard-nosed forward.
