Raymond Agent: Deal With Red Wings Not Imminent
Talks not close to resolution
The veil of secrecy shrouding the contract talks between the Detroit Red Wings and restricted free agent forward Lucas Raymond has been pulled back slightly. And what this peek behind behind the curtain is revealing will not be well-received by Red Wings fans.
With two weeks until the club is set to open main training camp in Traverse City, the Raymond camp is saying that there currently is no common ground in place for the framework of a new contract.
“Today there is no proposal that is equal,” Peter Werner, Raymond’s agent, told writer Gunnar Nordstrom of Swedish website Expressen.
Nordstrom also spoke with Red Wings vice-president of hockey operations Nicklas Lidstrom about Raymond’s status. Lidstrom’s response was to acknowledge that the two sides were talking about “big money” in their contract discussions.
2. Lucas Raymond
PuckGM's went slightly shorter with #LGRW teammate Lucas Raymond.
The average contract by PuckGM's is 6 years @ $7.43M Cap Hit
Does that fit into the Yzerplan?https://t.co/mCRZjhIG4i

Projections are that Raymond could be seeking a new deal ranging in the $7.5 million per season range.
“The hopes are high that we will find a solution,” Werner said. “Lucas wants nothing more than to play hockey.”
For his part, Raymond has been insisting all along that he’ll be letting his negotiators handle all of the contract talks.
“I think I leave that to my agent and the people around me helping me,” Raymond said earlier in the summer.
Certainly, it only makes sense for Raymond to shoot for the moon with his new contract. He’s coming off a career year, collecting 31 goals and a team-leading 72 points. As Detroit was battling for a playoff spot, Raymond would score 14 goals over the club’s final 18 games.
No Word On Red Wings Seider, Berggren
Raymond is among three The Red Wings are RFAs. Defenseman Moritz Seider and forward Jonatan Berggren also remain without contracts as training camp nears.
“I get both sides,” Seider said shortly after the 2023-24 season reached its conclusion. “In the end it’s a business.”
I would be surprised if Yzerman did not want to pay Raymond $7.5M. Does Yzerman trade him? I am not so sure that is a good idea. If so, start talking to Buffalo. Start with Peterka, then add in Helenius, and Buffalo’s 2025 or 2026 first round pick. I do hope Steve is not holding up the deal. But who knows what is really happening. Would stink to lose a good player. Yet I do like Peterka.
Jarvis just re-signed with Carolina. Raymond should get similar term and AAV.
Trading Raymond would be foolish.
Yzerman wouldn’t be able to get fair value for him.
GM’s would try to rip him off.
The Wings/Yzerman were slow in getting Dylan Larkin a new contract. It was after the all-star break when that came together. I think the longer he waits to pull the trigger, the more it will cost him based on contracts signed over the summer. This should have been wrapped up right after the season ended.
Absolutely. While I like Yzerman, there are some things that are puzzling with him as being a GM.
He had to know Holl was not that good. Signing and keeping Vets without promoting a draft pick makes little sense. One per year is not the worst thing. Let Danielson or Kasper play with Tarasenko or Kane.
The Holl contract still confuses me!
Even Holl doesn’t understand why Yzerman made that offer.
That was good. That made me laugh… thanks.
Agent posturing to the media, there’s 2 weeks left..not concerned.
I hope so, but Yzerman does not play that game.
I always thought the Raymond contract would be difficult. A smaller, scoring winger is just less valuable than a center, defenseman or power forward of the same skill level, and they’re easier to acquire.
I imagine Raymond’s agent is using centers as comparables, and that’s why they’re apparently far apart. One young winger in that price range is Juraj Slafkovsky(7.6), unfortunately Raymond isn’t 6’3″ 230 and doesn’t affect the game in the way Slafkovsky can. Hopefully they reach an agreement with all three soon, but if not, I think most fans understand the importance of the salary cap.
Do you think they would trade him? Not sure who they can get. I would start with Buffalo for sure. Peterka, Helenius, and a 1st for 2026?
There’s no way you’re going to get that for Raymond. Maybe Peterka and and a 2nd. Buffalo is not dealing Helenius.
You are probably correct, but I was not thinking all of them. Some type of combination.
Does anyone think Raymond will want a trade?
No. He’s repeatedly said he wants to stay in Detroit.
Thanks.
What’s going on with Berggren? I had hoped he would be on the market.
Agree. 1 agent posturing means little. All 3 players couldn’t have better futures elsewhere and probably don’t want to go elsewhere. Their agents shuck and jive to try to get the team nervous. In the end the agents will go to the players with a number and the players will decide to take it as long as it isn’t disrespectful. I expect all three to stay Red Wings at least for a year or two likely longer.
