The Daily: How a Joke Turned Into Swayman Trade Rumor; Mazur Update
As if the Jeremy Swayman contract negotiations haven’t been weird enough already. Monday, a joke played by former NHLer Keith Yandle on Paul Bissonnette, created a firestorm reaction on social media for a short while.
Yandle texted Bissonnette claiming the Bruins were trading Swayman to the Ottawa Senators for former Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark.
Sounds absurd, or does it? The Bruins and Swayman undoubtedly are weary of the circus the Swayman negotiations have created. Everything seems possible.
Bissonnette, the former NHL turned broadcaster, bought hook, line and sinker. He threw it up on X (formerly Twitter). Here’s the problem: Bissonnette has more than 1.3 million followers and plenty of them were offering takes on this trade until Bissonnette discovered that Yandle, known to be a funny guy, confessed that he was pulling Bissonnete’s leg.
There was an expletitve included when Bissonnette reported that he had been had by Yandle.
Just got a text from Keith Yandle saying he’s hearing Swayman to Ottawa for Ullmark. Waiting for more details.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard scored, but the Red Wings fell to the Buffalo Sabres on split-squad night.
The Red Wings certainly like what Carter Mazur has to offer, but there’s probably no room for him on the roster unless injuries occur.
Detroit’s power-play fizzled in a lopsided loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lucas Raymond did find the net once on the power play.
Red Wings Extra
The Red Wings (2-2) will play the Penguins again tonight in Pittsburgh. Wednesday is the only day this week they don’t play a preseason game. In case you have forgotten, Detroit’s first regular-season game is Oct. 10 at home against Pittsburgh.

Buffalo: Jason Moser tells us what to make of the Sabres prospects this fall. Noah Ostlund’s ceiling seems to be higher than anticipated. Buffalo Sabres.Â
Chicago: Speedy AJ Spellacy, a 2024 draft pick, has had an impressive training camp for the Chicago Blackhawks.
San Jose: Injured Yaroslav Askarov took first step toward returning to action. San Jose Sharks.Â
I have no problem with Kane and Tarasenko. Motte over Kasper or Mazur makes no sense. Or in reality, how much better will Motte be than them? If you have no confidence in your prospects, then trade them away. Otherwise, it is time to start moving these guys along and not wait until they cannot clear waivers (i.e. Berggren, Johansson).
Not sure why anyone would want Kasper, Danielson, or Mazur in the AHL until they can no longer clear waivers. Puzzling by all means.
Tarasenko and co. will get it together.
Bissonette has way too many followers for the brain he has!
