Red Wings day off
The Red Wings are spoofing Ferris Bueller's Day Off to hype their season opener.

The Detroit Red Wings are spoofing one of the most popular films of the 1980s to promote their October 10 season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is remembered for many iconic scenes and lines, but most all in these parts, it’s recalled because the character of Cameron, the best friend of Ferris, wears a Gordie Howe No. 9 Wings jersey through most of the movie.

In the spoof of the film, former Detroit players Darren McCarty (Ferris) and Danny DeKeyser (Cameron) play key roles, as does Wings and Detroit Tigers broadcaster Daniella Bruce, fulfilling the part of Mia Sara. They act out several scenes from the film, giving some of them even more of a Red Wings twist.

But did you ever wonder why a film set in Chicago was featuring a guy in a Red Wings jersey?
