The Daily: Petry Hurt, Husso Struggles; Celebrini Scores in Debut

Ville Husso, Red Wings

It’s less than three period into the Detroit Red Wings’ new season. Yet coach Derek Lalonde was already waiting on a medical report on the extent of the Jeff Petry injury.

Bob Duff wondered in his Red Wings Notebook whether the injury will necessitate a recall of Justin Holl. If Petry is out, Moritz Seider is the only the right-shot defenseman on the team.  The lack of right shots on the blue line is a concern for the team.

More information about the Petry injury should come out today after the Red Wings’ practice.

Meanwhile, Lalonde did say post-game he will use a different goalie Saturday against the Predators. Lalonde has said previously that he planned to use all three of his goalies early in the season. But Husso struggled against the Penguins, and Lalonde pulled him early in the second period. Can Talbot relieved and gave up two goals on 14 shots.

The third goalie is of course Alex Lyon who did a good job for Detroit last season when it made an unsuccessful run at earning a playoff spot.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

How the Red Wings can silence doubters and exceed expectations. Players like Vladimir Tarasenko and Alex DeBrincat need to maximize their scoring potential. Tarasenko scored his first goal as a Red Wing Thursday and DeBrincat had two tallies.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygard will return to Skelleftea’s lineup tonight in the SHL.

Red Wings Extra

Members of coach Derek Lalonde’s squad are undoubtedly glad there is a quick turnaround for Game 2 after their disappointing performance in Game 1.  The Red Wings will play the Nashville Predators Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Despite a commitment to improved defensive play this season, the Red Wings lost 6-3. The Red Wings were good early, but could not sustain that level as the game wore on. Prospect report: Dimitri Buchelnikov (52nd, 2022) scored again Thursday in his KHL game. His statistics: three goals, 10 assists, 13 points in 14 games for Podolsk Vityaz.
