The Daily: Mantha Makes Positive Impression In Calgary; Talbot Gem

The early reviews of Anthony Mantha in Calgary have been favorable. He’s a hit with his new teammates and fans. In two games, Mantha has one goal, three points, seven penalty minutes. He’s also plus-3.
He won over teammates earlier this week by recording a Gordie Howe hat trick while sticking up a for a player. It was the third time in Mantha’s career that he recorded a goal, assist and fight in an NHL game.
The Flames signed Mantha with the idea that he might be good fit to play on a line with his friend Jonathan Huberdeau. There is little risk because Mantha is on a one-year deal.
“Craig Conroy likes Mantha’s size and shot and figured uniting the two casual friends from Quebec could help both.” Sportsnet’s Eric Francis wrote. “If Mantha can be productive alongside one of the game’s best passers, the Flames would then have to decide if he’s worth signing to an extension or flipping at the deadline for more assets.”

Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Cam Talbot posts a 42-save shutout in his first start for the Red Wings.
After back-to-back starts to launch the AHL season, Red Wings goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa (15th, 2021) owns a 2.01 goals-against average and .941 save percentage. Max Smith has the story.
Win over the Predators was the style of victory the Coach Derek Lalonde‘s Red Wings have to have to qualify for the NHL playoffs.
Red Wings Extra
The Red Wings’ next game is Monday at the New York Rangers. The Rangers’ goalie recently turned down a contract offer to pay him an average of $11 million per season. He gave up six goals Saturday night in a 6-5 overtime loss to Utah. Could the Red Wings see Jonathan Quick in net for New York Monday?
