Detroit Red Wings 2010 first-round pick Riley Sheahan (21st overall) has officially retired after 12 years in the NHL.



Sheahan, 32, played parts of seven seasons with Detroit, but ended up playing 637 games with six different NHL teams. He also played with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers and Seattle Kraken .

He last played pro hockey in 2022-23 when he played for the Sabres, Rochester Americans and Biel HC in the Swiss League. Sheahan played college hockey at Notre Dame.

In the NHL, he spent his career as a role player. Sheahan’s best NHL season was 2014-15 when he scored 13 goals and put up 36 points for the Red Wings.
