The Daily: Hurricanes Lean On Ex-Detroit Player; Lyon No. 1?
The Carolina Hurricanes undoubtedly appreciate Shayne Gostisbehere as much as the Detroit Red Wings miss him.
Gostisbehere has scored four goals in Carolina’s last four games to match Dougie Hamilton (2019-20) for the longest goal streak by a defenseman in Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers history. The Hurricanes signed Gostisbehere last summer with the hope he would add another layer of danger to the team’s power play.
Three of Gostisbehere’s goals have come on the power play, which is where the Red Wings miss him the most. GM Steve Yzerman tried to re-sign him but couldn’t reach an agreement.
Carolina’s power play ranks seventh in the NHL at 28.6%, while the Red Wings’ are 22nd at 15%.
