The Daily: Danielson Scores First Pro Goal; Husso Exits Early
Nate Danielson, a 2023 first-round draft pick, scored his first professional goal and Sebastian Cossa turned in a strong relief outing in goal to help the Grand Rapids Griffins earn a 2-1 road win against the Springfield Thunderbirds Friday.
But the bigger story may have been Ville Husso leaving the game in second period for an undisclosed reason. Husso was undermined by injury last season. Coming into this season, he had not played a full game for the Red Wings since last December.
The Danielson goal — scored on the power play — is important. With Marco Kasper in Detroit, Danielson is the next center in the pipeline. Much like Kasper, the key for Danielson may be how much his scoring touch develops.
Meanwhile, Cossa is off to an exceptional start to his second season in the AHL. He boast a 3-1 record with a 1.41 goals-against average and .958 save percentage.
