The Daily: Walman Part of Ugly NHL Record; Tage vs. Detroit

The Steve Yzerman trade that sent Jake Walman to the San Jose Sharks this summer placed him on an NHL-record setting club.
And not in a good way.
The former Red Wings defenseman is a member of a Sharks team that became the first NHL team ever to lose nine games to start back-to-back seasons. The ninth loss came Saturday when the Sharks fell 7-3 to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Walman has not been part of the problem. In terms of playing time, he’s the team’s No. 1 defenseman (22.42 minutes per game). He’s also second on the team with 25 shots on goal. His plus-minus of minus-4 is acceptable for a team that has eight players at minus-5 or worse.
The Sharks coaching staff seems to appreciate Walman’s work. He shows two points on the season. The Red Wings traded Walman last summer, mostly because they needed his cap space, but also because they didn’t always appreciate his approach to goal celebrations and commitment to what the Red Wings were trying to accomplish.
