The Daily: Red Wings Climb Above .500; NHL Trade Rumors
The Detroit Red Wings (6-5-1) have climbed above .500 for the first time this season and there’s excitement over how they got here.
For the second game in a row, the Detroit squad held an opponent to one goal. That level of defensive stinginess is what coach Derek Lalonde has been stressing since training camp started. With these two efforts, the Red Wings now ranks 10th in the NHL with a 3.00 goals-against average.
The stronger defensive effort is welcome after a three-game losing streak in which they gave up 14 goals.
The thoroughness of the win over Chicago is evidenced by Detroit’s top defensive pairing of Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson finishing at plus-four.
Alex DeBrincat was under pressure to have a strong start, and he now has 11 points in 12 games. Andrew Copp has five goals, after producing 13 all of last season.
