Red Wings Recall Husso Under Emergency Conditions
Lyon out with lower-body injury
The Detroit Red Wings recalled goalie Ville Husso from the Grand Rapids Griffins to join the team for tonight’s Hockey Hall of Fame game in Toronto.
This morning’s transaction was made under “emergency conditions.” The Red Wings revealed on Friday morning that goalie Alex Lyon tweaked a lower-body ailment and won’t be dressing tonight. It’s not considered serious.
Alex Lyon is out with a lower body injury. Tweaked it yesterday. Cam Talbot tonight, Ville Husso tomorrow. Derek Lalonde said he’s not overly concerned about this being long term. #LGRW

Nonetheless, Husso will back up Cam Talbot Friday against the Maple Leafs. Husso will get the starting nod on Saturday at home against the New York Rangers.
Husso played a strong game Thursday — stopping 37 of 39 shots he faced — in a 5-2 road win against the Iowa Wild in their annual School Day Game. Husso owns a 1.23 goals-against average and .958 save percentage in three games with the Griffins.

The Finnish goalie played well in the Red Wings preseason when coach Derek Lalonde held his “blank slate” goalie competition. He was the team’s starting goalie on opening night. But after giving up four goals on 14 shots, he was pulled in the second period of a home loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Four days later, the Red Wings sent him to the American Hockey League, knowing that it was highly likely he would clear waivers. His $4.75 million salary discouraged teams from claiming him. Plus, there is concern about his ability to stay healthy. His start yesterday was his first since coming off the injury list.
