The Daily: Ex-Red Wings Player on Waivers; Penguins Trade

Published

on

James Reimer, Red Wings

This is not the kind of season former Detroit Red Wings goalie James Reimer was hoping for when he signed with the Buffalo Sabres on a one-year $1 million contract last summer.

Reimer, 36, finds himself on waivers for the second time this season. The Anaheim Ducks put him on waivers Tuesday because John Gibson is ready to play again. If Reimer clears, then he would have to report to the AHL if he wants to continue playing.

Anaheim claimed Reimer from the Sabres on Oct. 7 when Gibson had an emergency appendectomy. It’s possible the Sabres could reclaim him today to serve as their No. 3 goalie. That’s the role he played last season in the Detroit organization.

Red Wings in Case You Missed It

Goalie Alex Lyon is close to returning to the Detroit lineup, although it might not be tonight in Pittsburgh.

Detroit prospect goalie Rudy Guimond is leaving from Cedar Rapids Roughriders, possibly to join the Moncton Wildcats in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Guimond will head to Yale in 2025.

Detroit’s four-game road trip starts tonight in Pittsburgh (7:30, TNT). The Red Wings then travel to California for games against Anaheim, Los Angeles and San Jose. Presumably, Cam Talbot would start in goal tonight for Detroit. Meanwhile, former Red Wings general manager Ken Holland has been hired as a consultant for the league’s hockey operations department. Before taking that job, Holland had considered working as a consultant for the Utah Hockey Club.
