Simon Edvinsson Injured in Loss to the Ducks
Defenseman Simon Edvinsson suffered an undisclosed injury in a 6-4 road loss to the Anaheim Ducks and his status for tonight’s game against Los Angeles is unclear.
Coach Derek Lalonde told FanDuel Sports Network after the game that he had no update. If Edvinsson can’t play today, Justin Holl would enter the lineup.
Edvinsson blocked a shot late in the second period and television cameras showed him struggling to get off the ice. He tried to play in the third period, but was unable to continue.
The continued Edvinsson development, coupled with his pairing with Moritz Seider, has been one of the most positive developments for the Red Wings. Edvinsson’s confidence is growing. On Wednesday, he scored his first overtime goal for the game-winner in a 3-2 verdict against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Even though Edvinsson only played 14:02 minutes, he led Detroit players with three blocked shots. He was plus-one in the game. On the season, the 6-foot-6 Swede boasts six points in 16 games with plus-3 plus-minus rating. Edvinsson’s 37 blocked shots is one below Seider’s team-leading total.
