Coming into Friday’s Grand Rapids Griffins’ game, top Detroit prospect goalie Sebastian Cossa had given up two or fewer goals in 72.7% (eight of 11) of his appearances for the team.

But his numbers took a hit last night as the previously surging Griffins (11-4-1) stumbled in a 5-2 loss to the Iowa Wild. That halted the Griffins’ five-game winning streak.

“We probably got what we deserve,” Grand Rapids coach Dan Watson said in his post-game press conference.

The Griffins, with Detroit prospects leading the way, had their second-best start in franchise history for 15 games. They beat the Iowa Wild two weeks ago.

Detroit prospect Amadeus Lombardi scored to give him 10 points in his last 11 games. Cossa, who gave up four goals against Iowa, now owns a 2.08 GAA and .931 save percentage.  This was Grand Rapids’ second home loss of the season. But they remain in first place in the AHL’s Central Division.

Red Wings Extra

If the Red Wings want an NHL playoff spot, they may have to battle with the Boston Bruins to get it. After a poor start and a coach firing, the Bruins are not in the expected place near the top of the Atlantic Division. They are tied for the final wild card. The Red Wings are three points behind going into tonight’s Boston-Detroit Original Six contest tonight at Little Caesars Arena (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network). Who’s hot: Jonatan Berggren, three goals in past four games.
