Red Wings at Islanders: Notes, Lines, Goalies, How to Watch

The Red Wings and Islanders meet for the final time in the regular season tonight as the 2024-25 campaign passes the quarter pole.

The teams played in Detroit last week, with the Red Wings winning 2-1, and Detroit won on the Islanders’ home rink last month. 1-0.

That’s been a rare bright spot on the season which has left fans ranging from despairing to downright angry.

Neither team comes in on a roll. The Wings have lost four of their last five, while the Islanders have lost five of their last seven.

Patrick Kane and Michael Rasmussen are nursing upper-body injuries. Kane is out tonight and is listed as day to day.

That might give Joe Veleno a chance to get back into the lineup, with conditions, as Kevin Allen reports.

Alex Lyon, who is 2-0 against the Islanders, get the start in net tonight.

Meanwhile, the Islanders are in the midst of a stretch that has them playing three of their next four games at home, including tonight.

So, like last week, tonight’s game pits a pair of teams looking for a spark in what has been a mostly flat season for both.

So, we’re going to roll out the equivalent of two 2nd lines, and two 4th lines, against a team designed to eliminate scoring chances. Drink lots of coffee for this one. In fact, have this on in the background while you sit and watch paint dry. If only you could order a “caffeine drip” on Amazon.

At least this is the last time we play this team.

Steve B

I wish we could play them every night, it’s the only team DRW can consistently beat.

I’m feeling a Marco Kasper break out tonight. I’ve really liked his game since moving up to the 2nd line. He provides more “will” than anyone else on the team.

RWHockey13

Seems like they moved him back down to third line duties. All part of the tanking objective.

Bobby Pro-Bear

Why was motte moved up to the 2nd line

Bobby Pro-Bear

Can someone explain why Motte is on the 2nd line?

Mike Babcock

No I can’t. 🤔
