The Daily: Augustine Helps MSU Rank No. 1; Penguins Trade
Sebastian Cossa isn’t the only Detroit prospect goalie making news this fall. Trey Augustine (drafted 41st in 2023) is one reason why the Michigan State hockey team is ranked No. 1 for the first time since 2007.
Red Wings prospect Red Savage is another reason.
MSU (9-1) moved past Denver (12-2) this week. The Spartans have 37 first-place votes, while Denver owns seven.
South Lyon native Augustine is 8-1 this season with a 1.89 goals-against average and .931. Savage, son of former NHLer Brian Savage, is also the MSU captain. He has four goals and two assists for six points in 10 games.

Red Wings In Case You Missed
Alex Lyon is 3-0 against the New York Islanders this season. He beat them 4-2 Monday night on the road.
Multiple Swiss teams want to sign former Detroit player Austin Czarnik for next season.
Joe Veleno played Monday after being benched for two games. Coach Derek Lalonde is clear about what Veleno needs to do to stay in the lineup.
Red Wings Extra
Detroit returns home to play three consecutive home games, starting Wednesday with a game against the Calgary Flames at Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings then play New Jersey Friday afternoon (3 p.m.) and then the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday (noon). Tidbits: Patrick Kane didn’t play against the Islanders because of an upper body injury. He’s day to day…. Simon Edvisson has 10 points in Detroit’s first 20 games. That’s a pace for 40-plus points. Isn’t time for him to get power play time. He’s plus-6 on the season. Edvinsson has only had one minus game in his past 10.

Johansson looked well in that game. Glad for him. Good to hear about Augustine.
Did anyone read Bob Heyrman’s article: Derek Lalonde deploys a questionable lineup Monday with Patrick Kane injured?
He is correct in my view…
Lalonde deploys a questionable lineup pretty much every game. Problem is that is what Mr. Yzerman has given him. It’s time — past time.
True… very true.
