The Daily: Ex-Red Wings Player Out For Canucks; NHL Trade Talk

Red Wings Filip Hronek

Former Detroit Red Wings player Filip Hronek won’t be in the Vancouver Canucks’ lineup Sunday when they play the Detroit club in Little Caesars Arena on Sunday at 12:30.

Hronek has an undisclosed injury suffered Wednesday when he went dangerously into the endboards during a 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Coach Rick Tocchet said he didn’t know how long Hronek will be sidelined, but it seems it could be a while. Hronek didn’t play in the Canucks’ Friday win against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Hronek loss is significant for the Canucks because he plays alongside top defenseman Quinn Hughes.

Vancouver continues to be undermined by lineup absences. Goalie Thatcher Demko is out with injury, and center JT Miller isn’t playing for personal reasons.

The Red Wings traded Hronek to Vancouver for first- and second-round picks in 2023.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

The New Jersey Devils organization trolled the Red Wings on social media after the Devils won 5-4.

Detroit’s penalty kill continues to murder coach Derek Lalonde‘s team. The Red Wings rank 32nd out of 32 teams.
