Detroit Red Wings
Red Wings vs. Canucks: Notes, Lines, Goalies, How to Watch
The Red Wings’ play this season should serve as a kind of wake-up call.
They likely got the real kind this morning, with a 12:30 p.m. start against the Vancouver Canucks on the schedule.
Their penalty kill, however, is still sleeping. They are last in the NHL on the kill after Friday’s loss to New Jersey.
Detroit will be without Patrick Kane and Alex Lyon again. Coach Derek Lalonde said Saturday that Kane might return on Tuesday on Boston. Lyon, meanwhile. will be out another week and won’t make the two-game road trip to Boston and Ottawa.
Cam Talbot will be in net, and will be doing his best to hold on to his record for most road wins to start a season.
The current record is nine, which he shares with Vancouver’s Kevin Lankinen and Hall-of-Famer Glenn Hall.
Talbot tied Hall last season in Los Angeles. Lankinen goes for No. 10 today.
The Red Wings have shown some signs of life in offense, but are averaging nearly a goal a game less than the Canucks.
Meanwhile, each Detroit loss increases speculation about Lalonde’s future, both in the near and long term.
