Red Wings Prospect Sandin Pellikka to Captain Swedish Squad
Raymond to play for Sweden in Four Nations Tournament
It’s no surprise that Detroit Red Wings defense prospect Axel Sandin Pellikka will be playing for Sweden later this month at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa.
He’ll be playing in the tournament for the third successive year. And this year, Sandin Pellikka will be leading his country into battle. He’s going to be the captain of Sweden’s squad.

“He was assistant captain last year,” Sweden’s coach Magnus Havelid told Swedish website Aftonbladet. “He has also developed as a person and has an ability to bring out the little extra. It was quite natural.”
Detroit’s 17th overall selection in the 2023 NHL entry draft, Sandin-Pellikka, 19, currently is leading all defensemen in scoring in the SHL. He won SM gold with Skelleftea last season.
At last year’s world juniors, Sandin Pellikka was helping Sweden to a silver medal. He was earning the nod as the tournament’s top defenseman.
The news wasn’t all good for Swedish Red Wings prospects, however. Left-winger Noah Dower-Nilsson was not earning selection to the Swedish team. Detroit’s 73rd overall choice in the 2023 draft, Dower Nilsson shows 2-3-5 totals this season for Frolunda in the SHL.
Red Wings Raymond To Play In Four Nations
It also wasn’t at all surprising to see the name of Lucas Raymond on the Sweden roster that will be playing in the Four Nations Tournament in February.

Raymond is enjoying a sensational season for Detroit. Currently riding an eight-game point streak, Raymond is leading the Red Wings in scoring with 9-18-27 totals. He was scoring both goals in Tuesday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.
Raymond has accounted for eight goals over the past 10 games. Last season, he would score a career-high 31 goals and lead Detroit with 72 points, also a career high. That performance was helping the restricted free agent to earn an eight-year pact with the Red Wings in the summer that will pay his an AAV of $8.075 million.
