The Daily: Perron Sidelined vs. Red Wings; Larkin on Team USA

David Perron, Red Wings

David Perron has endured a start to his Ottawa Senators season that has been challenging even for an optimistic person like him.

He had to take time off to be with his family during a medical crisis involving his daughter. She needed surgery immediately after her birth.  Perron returned to the team, but suffered an upper body injury that has caused him to miss four games.  He won’t be playing tonight when the Red Wings play in Ottawa.

According to Rotowire, Perron is a candidate to go on injured reserve should the Senators need the roster spot.

The usually-consistent Perron doesn’t have a point this season because of his issues. That has hurt the Senators because they were counting on Perron providing secondary scoring.  He registered 50-plus points in each of the past two seasons for the Detroit Red Wings. The Senators signed Perron to a two-year deal worth $8 million.

What matters most in all of this is that his daughter Elizabeth’s surgery went well.

Red Wings Extra

The Red Wings (10-11-4) play the Ottawa Senators (10-12-2) tonight in Ottawa. Despite the Red Wings’ inconsistency this season, they are only three points out of a playoff spot. Both the Red Wings and Senators have only posted three wins in their last 10 games. On Wednesday, two Red Wings were selected to play for their countries in the 4 Nations Tournament. Dylan Larkin will play for USA and Lucas Raymond will be a member of  Team Sweden.
