Red Wings Are Dull . . . And That’s Deadly

Detroit is both bad and boring this season

The Red Wings are neither exciting or successful this season.

The Detroit Red Wings aren’t a terrible team. However, they are a bad team.

The only thing worse than being a bad team is being a bad team that’s also boring.

Say hello to the 2024-25 edition of the Red Wings.

They are bad and they are boring. You can check them off in both boxes.

On the one hand, like last season’s club, they are remaining on the cusp of the playoff picture, just three points out of a postseason spot. Unlike the 2023-24 Red Wings, this team simply isn’t the least bit compelling. And the fanbase is taking notice.

The worst possible outcome is becoming a reality for the Wings. The faithful are giving up. They are growing apathetic about their favorite team.

“Is it just me or are the Red Wings boring to watch?” asks Steve Navaroli (@stevenavaroli) on X, the social media site known in better days as Twitter. “Making the decision to switch to the Lions easy.”

That’s another issue for Detroit’s NHL squad. The Lions are the NFL’s best team. Meanwhile, the MLB Tigers were a playoff team. Even the generally woeful NBA Detroit Pistons are showing signs of life.

Where’s the hope and excitement surrounding the city’s other pro sports teams, there’s only hopelessness in Hockeytown.

“(The) Detroit Red Wings are so boring and uninspiring,” posted Brett Griffith (@mynameisbrett9).

Can Red Wings Score On Avalanche?

The incoming Colorado Avalanche, Saturday’s visitors to Little Caesars Arena, are polar opposites to the Wings. Colorado has allowed three or more goals in 18 of 27 games. Detroit has scored less than three goals in 14 of 26 games.

Can the goal-starved Wings put the puck in the net behind the porous Colorado netminders?

The faithful appear to be losing faith.

“It’s hard to be a Red Wings fan,” posted Matthew Kasman (@matthewkasman).

Or as Matthew Lance (@LlMatthew) was simply summing it up: “No joy in Hockeytown.”
