Red Wings at Sabres: Notes, Lines, Goalies, How to Watch

Sebastian Cossa, Red Wings prospect

The Red Wings are shuffling off to Buffalo, losers of five games in a row, all by a goal.

Coach Derek Lalonde is still without his starting goalies although Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon did skate at Sunday’s practice.

Ville Husso, who was underwhelming early in the season, has played in each of the last five games and has kept the Red Wings in contention each night.

The Red Wings called up Sebastian Cossa from Grand Rapids a week ago, but he hasn’t seen action yet.

With the schedule heating up and the Wings ice-cold, the Wings are looking at a situation where they don’t want to exhaust Husso while Talbot and Lyon are out.

But if Cossa is the goalie of the future, why not get a look at him right now?

The Red Wings would prefer that Cossa get more seasoning, but they may have to alter that plan with the team spiraling in the standings.

It’s not a lack of effort so much as a lack of production. The Wings don’t get enough shots on goal, and the ultimate decision might come through the old cliché that it’s easier to replace a coach than 23 players.

The Sabres are scuffling, too, having lost six games in a row. That could make for an interesting game between teams desperate for a win.
