Ville Husso will likely be the starting goalie for the Detroit Red Wings Saturday when they play at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Cam Talbot left the Red Wings’ practice at the start of it Friday. Coach Derek Lalonde told the media after practice that he won’t play Saturday.

“Just battling something, lower body,” Lalonde said. “Obviously, fought through it, gave us an unbelievable game last night. Gave it a go early in practice today and couldn’t complete practice.”

Husso hasn’t won a game at the NHL in more than a year. Since being recalled from Grand Rapids, he has played five games and gone 0-2-2 with an .893 save percentage.

The Red Wings called up NHL veteran Jack Campbell from the Grand Rapids Griffins to serve as Detroit’s backup Saturday. The Griffins announced Friday that they called up Carter Gylander from the Toledo Walleye.

Lalonde said Alex Lyon, also recovering from injury, isn’t quite ready. He has not played since Nov. 25.  “Hoping for Wednesday,” Lalonde said. “He took a full practice today, moving post to post very well. I think this was the plan all along and hope for Wednesday (at home against the Philadelphia Flyers).”

Talbot’s start Thursday against Philadelphia was his first game in 11 days, and he was extremely sharp, making 32 saves while giving up only two goals.

The injuries are poor timing for the Griffins who are two games into a six-game road trip. They are playing in Colorado tonight and Saturday. They are in Texas Tuesday and Wednesday.
