Jack Campbell, Red WIngs

The Detroit Red Wings signed Jack Campbell this summer as insurance against multiple goalie injuries. Today they have to take advantage of that policy.

GM Steve Yzerman called up NHL veteran Campbell from Grand Rapids to be the backup today for Villie Husso. Cam Talbot left practice with an injury Friday. Alex Lyon is due to return over the next couple of days. The Red Wings, playing Toronto, clearly didn’t relish the idea of bringing up Sebastian Cossa to sit on the bench. The Grand Rapids Griffins play tonight in the fourth game of a six-game road trip. The Griffins need the points.

Because Campbell was in the NHL/NHLPA Players Assistance program at the start of the season, the Michigan native has only played two games this season. He boasts a 2.55 GAA and .919 save percentage.

Cam Fowler Traded

The St. Louis Blues sent a second-round draft pick to Anaheim for defenseman Cam Fowler. The Ducks also received prospect Jeremie Biakabutuka from St. Louis. Biakabutuka player for the Red Wings in their rookie tournament a couple of years ago.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Detroit has a collection of home games coming up. Does that help or hurt the team? Bob Duff has an answer.

Dating to Nov. 15, Patrick Kane has gone nine games without a goal. Kane said he has to demand the puck more.

Red Wings Extra

Detroit needs more offense today when the Red Wings face the Toronto Maple Leafs at Little Caesars Arena. Coach Derek Lalonde’s team ranks 28th with a scoring average of 2.52 goals per game. For contrast, consider that 19 NHL teams are averaging three goals per game or better. Detroit’s J.T. Compher has gone 20 games without a goal.
