Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs: Notes, Lines, Goalies, How to Watch
All teams trade in hope during the regular season, but the Red Wings are left with the desperate kind as they begin a homestand.
“It’s a good stretch for us to hopefully get some momentum,” Patrick Kane said Friday. “Use the building and the energy to our advantage and try to get something going here.”
That’s the difference between a confident team and one seeking answers it hasn’t found yet this season.
The Red Wings are a point out of last place in the Eastern Conference, while tonight’s opponent, the Toronto Maple Leafs, are in first place in the Eastern Conference, two points ahead of Carolina.
The Red Wings got some bad news at practice on Friday, when goalie Cam Talbot left the ice early after aggravating the lower-body injury that had sidelined him.
Alex Lyon isn’t yet ready to return, which means Ville Husso will be in net tonight.
He’ll be backed up by Jack Campbell, the Port Huron native who was recalled from Grand Rapids of the AHL on an emergency basis. Campbell had his greatest success as a member of the Maple Leafs three years ago.
The Maple Leafs have an injured goalie, too. Anthony Stolarz is out it ha lower-body injury and is day-to-day.
Husso hasn’t won a game in more than a year, and will be challenged to end that streak tonight.
And that’s where the Red Wings are: Hoping to turn things around, without much evidence to indicate that could happen any time soon.
