The Daily: Augustine Strong in Key MSU Wins; Campbell To GR

Detroit Red Wings goalie prospect Trey Augustine made 64 saves over two games to help Michigan State earn a shootout win and a 5-3 regulation win on the road against No. 1-ranked Minnesota.

Augustine made a season-high 40 saves on Friday in a game that is officially a 3-3 tie. MSU picked up the extra point by winning in a shootout. Augustine then produced 24 stops Saturday in the triumph. MSU, ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in national polls, generated a four-goal rally in the regulation victory. Another Red Wings prospect, Red Savage, assisted on the winning goal and added an empty netter in that win.

Will this be enough to vault Michigan State back to No. 1?

The South Lyon product is 11-2-1 this season with a 1.98 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Ville Husso beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 for his first win in more than a year. His last win before Saturday was a 6-4 triumph against St. Louis, Dec. 12, 2023.

Jeff Petry‘s two-goal game is a reminder that the Red Wings’ offense is stronger when the defense is contributing. Moritz Seider also scored in this win.

With low scoring numbers, Patrick Kane believes he has to demand the puck more. He’s not wrong.

The Red Wings reassigned Jack Campbell to the Grand Rapids Griffins. That probably means Alex Lyon is likely to be ready Wednesday, even if Cam Talbot isn’t. The Griffins sent Carter Gylander back to the Toledo Walleye.
