The Daily: Lyon Will Be Ready to Play vs. Flyers; Berggren Fined
Look for Alex Lyon to start for the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday, even though Ville Husso is coming off a quality start.
The Red Wings want to have all of their goalies ready as they hope for a playoff push. The injured Lyon hasn’t played since Nov. 25. Cam Talbot is also out day-to-day. Husso is also still on the Red Wings roster. The Red Wings could choose to carry three goalies, but GM Steve Yzerman was willing to send Husso to Grand Rapids earlier this season.
Monday’s DHN story points out that the Red Wings’ goaltending has probably been their most consistent strength this season. At a time when save percentage averages are going down, the Red Wings have improved this season to a .906 save percentage.

No NHL suspension for Jonatan Berggren for his high cross-check against Toronto’s Connor Dewar. He was fined $2,148 dollars. Toronto fans expressed their anger over that decision. They point out that Auston Matthews got a two-game suspension for a similar cross-check. One of the reasons why Berggren didn’t arrive in the NHL as quickly as he wanted is his habit of taking bad penalties.
Detroit’s Jonatan Berggren has been fined $2,148.44, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking Toronto’s Connor Dewar.
