“And so this is Festivus/And what have you done?”*
Festivus, in case you missed it, was part of a classic episode on “Seinfeld” a generation ago.
On the show, Festivus was celebrated with, among other things, feats of strength and an airing of grievances.
Certainly, the airing of grievances was fully underway on Sunday after the Red Wings lost for the second night in a row to Montreal.
Feats of strength during this dreary season have been harder to find.
There’s Simon Edvinsson, who has proven to be the first of what the Wings hope is a steady flow of prospects from Grand Rapids.
Lucas Raymond, after a slow start, has blossomed into a standout on offense.
Cam Talbot was solid in goal before being sidelined by injury.
Speaking of injuries, Edvinsson isn’t expected to play tonight, and Ben Chiarot, who was injured Saturday night, is also out of the lineup.
St. Louis has had a bumpy road this season as well, stuck with the worst offense in the NHL and already on their second coach of the season.
It makes tonight yet another game where both teams are looking to win and give themselves some momentum going into the Christmas holiday.
And what the heck? Maybe Santa Claus will have something under the tree for the Red Wings on Christmas morning.
It’s a nice thought, anyway.
