Prospect Danielson’s Three Points Help Griffins Win
Center Nate Danielson registered his first professional three-point game in helping the Grand Rapids Griffins (18-9-3-0) end a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 win against the Cleveland Monsters.
Danielson (drafted ninth, 2023) recorded an assist on all three of Joe Snively’s third career AHL hat trick.
Ville Husso (32 saves) earned the win in net for the Griffins who are in first place in the AHL’s Central Division. He is 5-1 for the Griffins with 2.18 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. He also posted save percentages of .914 or better in four of his last five starts for the Detroit Red Wings from Dec. 3-14.

After putting up only three points in his first 10 games this season, Danielson now has 16 points in his last 20 games. He is only five months younger than Marco Kasper, but this is Danielson’s first full professional season. The Red Deer Alberta native did play two playoff games for the Griffins last season.
Goals Coming?
It’s too early to project what kind of NHLer Danielson can be, but thus far he is primarily been a playmaker. Sixteen of his 19 points have been assists. But keep in mind that Kasper started slowly for the Griffins last season, and was a more effective player in the second half of the AHL season.
Although Danielson is producing points at a higher rate than Kasper did last season, Danielson has gone 10 games without a goal.
Other Detroit prospects who got on the score sheet: Defenseman Shai Buium earned his 10th assist of the season. Defenseman William Wallinder also earned an assist. Elmer Soderblom picked up an assist and nine minutes in penalties.
Speaking of fighting, NHL Austin Watson had another fighting major for the Griffins, plus two assists. He has nine goals and 23 points in 28 games. Depending upon what happens at the NHL level, he could be a candidate to be called up
