Red Wings Sign 2024 Draft Pick to Entry Level Deal

Ondrej Becher, Grand Rapids Griffins

The Detroit Red Wings have made third round draft pick Ondrej Becher the second player signed from their list of 2024 draft picks.

The other player from that draft class already signed is first-round pick Michael Brandsegg-Nygard (15th). The Red Wings would have liked to have Brandsegg-Nygard in Grand Rapids, but he wanted to play this season for Skelleftea in the Swedish Hockey League.

Becher, 20, was injured at the start of the season, and then signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Grand Rapids Griffins on Nov. 2. He has played regularly since then in Grand Rapids’ bottom, putting up a goal and three points in 19 games.

The Czech center/wing scored 32 goals and registered 96 points last season for the Prince George Cougars and the Red Wings saw enough development thus far to give him a three-year entry level deal. He had three goals and 10 points for the Czechs at last year’s World Junior Championships.

The Red Wings have signed four from the 2023 draft class. Nate Danielson (9th), Axel Sandin Pellikka (17th), Andrew Gibson (42nd) and Emmitt Finnie (201st). However, they have already traded Gibson to the Nashville Predators.

Becher scored his first AHL goal Nov. 24 against the Iowa Wild.
