There’s been no direct further update on the condition of Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry. However, other developments are suggesting that the prognosis isn’t going to be good news.

Petry left Thursday’s 5-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday following an on-ice collision. He was in need of a push from defense partner Simon Edvinsson to help Petry gain momentum in his attempt to leave the ice while play was ongoing.

After the game, Detroit head coach Todd McLellan wasn’t coming forward with any information on Petry’s condition.

“I can’t tell you much right now,” McLellan said. “Obviously, he didn’t return, so that’s never a good sign. He’ll be evaluated . . . and we’ll see where we’re at.”

Red Wings Recall Lagesson

Where they are at is in need of another defenseman. On Friday, the Red Wings didn’t practice, so there was no Petry update forthcoming. However, the team did make a roster move that certainly has correlation to Petry’s status.

Detroit was recalling veteran defenseman William Lagesson from the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins. It’s his third recall to the Red Wings already this season.

Lagesson was first joining the team during the club’s California trip in November, but saw no action. He was again summoned last month following injuries to Edvinsson and Ben Chiarot.

This time the Swedish rearguard would play in two games with Detroit, making his Red Wings debut on Dec. 21 at Montreal.

“It’s fun to be up in the NHL again,” Lagesson said. “I’m just gonna try to help the team win. Win a game, play my game hard, tough game.”

Lagesson has nine points (3-6-9), 18 penalty minutes and a plus-13 rating in 23 games with the Griffins this season. His plus-13 rating is tied for eighth among the AHL’s defensemen and tied for 12th among all skaters. He’s also played in the NHL with Anaheim, Edmonton, Montreal and Toronto, logging 102 career games in the show.
