The Daily: Senators Come to Detroit With Goalie Woe; McLellan Lift

The Ottawa Senators will play their important game against the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday concerned about what their goaltending will look like moving forward.

Senators coach Travis Green revealed Sunday that starting goalie Linus Ullmark will be out week to week with a lingering back injury. He has not played since Dec. 22. Green said Ullmark is improving, but has not been on the ice yet.

The uncertainty over Ullmark’s status has already prompted speculation about the Senators looking at possible trade options.

Ullmark left during a 3-1 loss to the Oilers. Since then, the Senators are 1-3 and the team has given up four goals in each of the three losses. Prior to being injured, Ullmark had been on a run of 8-0-1 with a 1.43 goals-against average and .954 save percentage.

The Senators were in the final wildcard position, but now they trail the Pittsburgh Penguins by one point for that last spot. The Red Wings are three points behind Pittsburgh.
