Red Wings vs. Senators: Notes, Lines, Goalies, How to Watch
After a successful two-game road trip last week, the Detroit Red Wings are beginning a four-game homestand tonight against the Ottawa Senators.
It’s a key game between teams that are more and more becoming rivals in the Eastern Conference.
The Wings are looking to extend their season-best four-game winning streak, but a win tonight won’t have the same ramifications it would have had even on Sunday.
Back then, the Senators were sitting in the eighth playoff spot in the East, two points ahead of the Wings.
The latter is still true. However, both Montreal and Pittsburgh have passed Ottawa, which has fallen to 10th in the conference.
So there’s much at stake for both teams, who have put themselves in a position where every game is crucial.
The Red Wings are a game under .500 as they near the halfway point in the season, but their turnaround under Todd McLellan has observers outside Detroit taking notice.
Jeff Petry is still out. “He’s not going to play tonight, we have a day off tomorrow,” McLellan said. “The next opportunity for him to skate is on Thursday and I would say the feedback I’m getting on that is it’s doubtful that he’s going to skate on that day, so you can see where this is going.”
Alex Lyon gets the start in goal for Detroit.
