Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson scored on 103.7 mph one-timer to establish a new record for the NHL EDGE Stats data. The goal came in the Sabres’ 4-3 win against the Washington Capitals Monday.

The previous record for shot velocity on a goal was New York Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock’s goal on a shot that was clocked at 101.34 on Dec. 15.  Thompson’s previous best on scoring shot was 98.57 on Dec. 11.

Thompson’s goal came only six days after he recorded the hardest shot speed in an NHL game through four seasons of NHL EDGE stats data. His shot reached 106.0 mph in the third period of a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars on Dec. 31.

This season, Thompson has connected on 18 shots during NHL games that have topped 90-mph.
