The Daily: Sprong Wants Out Of AHL; Red Wings Want Practice

Former Red Wings player Daniel Sprong wasn’t shy about expressing his feelings or his immediate plans after the Seattle Kraken demoted him to their Coachella Valley Firebirds AHL team.
“I want to prove that I don’t belong here,” Sprong said after his first AHL game since the 2019-20 season. “I think my last two years in the NHL kind of speak for itself.”
Sprong is making good on his pledge to show he’s better than this league. He has scored three goals and added one assists in his first games with Coachella Valley.
Because of his skating ability, Sprong was able to scored 39 goals over the past two seasons. But this NHL season has not gone well for him. He signed with Vancouver, was traded to Seattle and only had two goals in 19 games for the two teams.
Sprong is a skilled offensive player, but has difficulty winning over coaches because his overall game is lacking.
“At the end of the day I want to make it clear I am an NHL player and that’s my mindset,” he said.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Former Detroit player Jake Walman is now the No. 1 defenseman on the Sharks team that will play the Red Wings tonight at Joe Louis Arena.
Coach Todd McLellan wasn’t thrilled that he couldn’t practice Monday after seeing some sloppiness in Sunday’s win against Seattle. When a team is winning, coaches like to practice to because players are excited and eager to learn.
Patrick Kane was selected as one of the NHL’s Three Stars. It was the first time this season a Red Wings player was honored by the NHL.

Coach Todd McLellan’s Detroit squad is seeking its eighth consecutive win tonight when it takes on the San Jose Sharks in Little Caesars Arena. The Sharks have only won two of their last 13 games. San Jose ranks 30th in goal scoring (2.53 goals per game) and 28th in goals-against (3.42).
