Red Wings at Panthers: Notes, Lines, Goalies, How to Watch

Vladimir Tarasenko, Red Wings

The Red Wings hit the road tonight, playing the first of four away from home in Florida. It starts a gauntlet of games against teams they haven’t had a lot of success against in theor home rinks.

At Florida, the Wings have lost 10 of their last 12.

At Tampa Bay, they’ve done pretty well in recent games, winning four of six. Before that, they had lost 17 games in. row.

At Dallas, they are 0-11.

At Philadelphia, they are 2-20.

In other words, yeeesh.

The Panthers sit comfortably in fifth place in the East, six points ahead of Tampa Bay.

The Red Wings sit in 11th place, tied with the Flyers and Penguins behind eighth-place Columbus.

But they have their work cut out for them these next four games.

That’s the test for both the Red Wings and coach Todd McLellan, who is starting to make known his preferences for his team.

The latest example was Tuesday night, when he bluntly discussed the play of Justin Holl in the Red Wings’ loss to the Sharks.

Vladimir Tarasenko, who scored twice in Tuesday’s loss, will make his first appearance in Sunrise since winning the Stanley Cup with the Panthers last summer.

That’s the kind of accountability the Red Wings need as they struggle to get back into the playoff hunt, and especially on the road, where they will play the majority of their games down the stretch.

Tyler Motte is out after crashing face-first into the boards on Tuesday, and Jeff Petry is out for at least another week, given the fact he’s not traveling with the team.

Alex Lyon skated with the team on Wednesday, but there was no word as to his availability, iof any, tonight
