Red Wings 2023 draftee Emmitt Finnie has an 11-game point streak for the WHL Kamloops Blazers.

Continuing to be the biggest surprise among recent Detroit Red Wings draft picks, Emmitt Finnie is ablaze for the WHL Kamloops Blazers. The 19-year-old center chosen 201st overall in the 2023 NHL entry draft is riding an 11-game point streak.



Finnie is counting 6 goals and 14 assists over this 11-game span. He’s producing in bunches. The 6-foot-1, 191-pounder has eight multi-point games during this hot streak. Through the entire campaign his ledger is showing 20 multi-point games.

Finnie has points in 15 of his last 16 games and 18 of his last 21 games. In fact, throughout the season, he’s never gone pointless more than one game in a row.

In 36 games this season, Finnie is showing 23 goals and 34 assists.

Red Wings Swedish Captains Making Comeback

Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg, the two Red Wings captains immediately prior to Dylan Larkin, are donning the gear again.

Before you go getting ahead of yourself, it’s for one night only.

The two Red Wings icons will be part of a Swedish national oldtimers team that will be participating in a game against a group of NHL alumni to help christen Sweden’s newly-renovated Globen Arena. Henrik Lundqvist and Mats Sundin are other legendary Swedish stars who will be participating in the game on Feb. 7.

Buchelnikov Scores Again

Red Wings draftee Dmitri Buchelnikov was helping Vityaz bring a halt to the club’s six-game losing skid in the KHL. Buchelnikov (52nd overall, 2022) was the scorer of the game’s opening goal as Vityaz was edging HC Sochi 2-1.

Buchelnikov now has 13 goals and 23 assists in 42 games this season. It was his first goal in five games and second point in four games.

Nestrasil Added To Top Prospects Game

The misfortune of one player with connections to the Red Wings is proving rewarding to another player with similar ties at the USA Hockey Top Prospects Game.

Michigan’s Will Horcoff, the son of Red Wings assistant GM Shawn Horcoff, was among four players who are unable to play in the game. One of the four addiitons to fill those roster spots is Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Vaclav Nestrasil.

He’s the younger brother of Andrej Nestrasil, who would play 13 games for the Red Wings in 2014-15. The older Nestrasil also would suit up for three seasons with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins.

Rybar Finds New Home

Speaking of former Griffins, ex-Grand Rapids goalie Patrik Rybar has located a new place to play. He’s now tending goal for Kunlun Red Star of the KHL. Rybar is 1-0-1 for them in two games, with one shutout and a .969 save percentage.

He was given his release by Moscow Spartak of the KHL over the holiday season. The Slovak netminder was suiting up for 37 games with the Griffins during the 2018-19 AHL season.
