Over the past three seasons, the Florida Panthers have owned the Detroit Red Wings like they were beachfront property.

The Panthers are 10-0-1 against Detroit in the span.

“As they say on Wall Street, ‘past performance is not indicative of future results.’

“(Detroit has) been playing much improved hockey lately and head to Florida within a few points of a playoff position,” Alan Greenberg wrote for Florida Hockey Now. “

With that seven-game winning streak, Detroit has acquired some respect.

Despite a poor performance in a 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, Detroit still seems to be showing confidence, at least more than they were showing in the first three months of the season.

“I thought we had a good practice,” Detroit coach Todd McLellan said. “Didn’t expect anything different. Would have been disappointed if it went the other way. But they came and they worked. They’ve done that every day since we’ve been here. Now we gotta translate that into a good effort.”

The Red Wings have the toughest schedule moving forward this season. They will have to conquer that to qualify for the NHL playoffs.

Defenseman Jeff Petry is still not skating, isn’t ready for the Red Wings’ road trip.

The Red Wings start a four-game road trip tonight with a game against the Florida Panthers (7 p.m, ESPN). Injured Alex Lyon is on the trip, but Cam Talbot is the likely starter. Ville Husso is also on the trip.
