The Daily: Ex-Red Wings Goalie Makes History; Barkov the Best

Pittsburgh Penguins players were teasing Alex Nedeljkovic Friday night about only needing a fight to boast a Gordie Hat Trick.
That became true when the former Detroit Red Wings player became the first goalie to register a goal and an assist in the same NHL game. He fired the puck from beyond his goal line when the Buffalo Sabres had their goalie pulled.
“I saw it at the offensive blue line. I didn’t think it had a chance. There’s no way, (but) then I saw Erik Karlsson with his hands in the air,” Nedeljkovic said.

The empty-net tally came during the Penguins’ 5-2 win against the struggling Sabres. Nedeljkovic also made 40 saves in the game as he continues to claim the Penguins’ No. 1 job.
Counting playoffs, this was the 19th goalie goal in NHL history.
