The Daily: Can Red Wings Earn Four Points on Trip?; Lyon Healthy

Alex Lyon, Red Wings

Ultimately, there will be no guesswork required when it comes to determining whether the Detroit Red Wings have had a successful season.

Either they will qualify for the postseason or they won’t.

But right now, with the team adjusting to a new coach, success is a matter of perspective. It’s clear to everyone that Todd McLellan’s approach to coaching is having an impact of this team. However, not every problem cannot be fixed overnight.

This is a challenging road trip as Tampa Bay’s 5-1 win against Detroit confirms.  With a game remaining against a quality Dallas Stars team and another in Philadelphia, success might be earning four out of a possible eight points on this trip.

Detroit has already earned two points with an impressive win against Florida last Thursday.

Let’s not forget the franchise has lost 10 consecutive times to the Stars and has fallen in 20 out of the past 22 games in Philadelphia.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Sergei Fedorov says he has regrets about his decision to leave the Detroit Red Wings years ago.

With Alex Lyon now healthy, Ville Husso is now back in Grand Rapids.

Elmer Soderblom’s offensive contributions to the Grand Rapids Griffins are growing.

Coach Todd McLellan’s team will play its third game in four days tonight when they face-off against the Dallas Stars (8 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network). The Stars also played Saturday, losing  6-3 to the Colorado Avalanche in Denver. The Stars have lost three of their last four after winning seven in a row. Lyon is the likely Red Wings’ starter in Dallas.
