Red Wings vs. Canadiens: Notes, Lines, Goalies, How to Watch

It’s almost redundant to say this again, but here goes: The Red Wings are facing another test tonight when they play host to Montreal at Little Caesars Arena.
The Canadiens are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, five points ahead of Detroit. The Red Wings sit in 14th place in the cage match that is the East, capable of moving up if they can put together another winning streak like the one they had earlier this month.
But they will have to find says to score other than the power play.
Especially when the power play dims, like it has in the last seven games for the Wings, who are 0-6-1 in that stretch.
The Red Wings have a minor score to settle, too. It was just over a month ago when the slumping Canadiens took on the Red Wings in a home-and-home and swept both games. Thee weekend started a resurgence for Montreal and the beginning of the end for then-coach Derek Lalonde, who didn’t record another win and was out of a job the next weekend.
There’s good news. and bad news on the injury front. Jeff Petry and Tyler Motte skated this morning. Petry has been out since Jan. 2. Coach Todd McLellan says he’ll have  an update on Petry’s return after Thursday’s practicer, which will be the first since he suffered the body injury that sidelined him.
Patrick Kane won’t be available tonight. He suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday’s loss at Philadelphia. No word as to how long he will be out.
