Red Wings vs. Lightning: Notes, Lines, Goalies, How to Watch

Injuries are a part of hockey, but for at least one of the Red Wings, they have provided an opportunity.

Jeff Petry has been out almost all of January due to an undisclosed injury and is “on a schedule,” according to coach Todd McLellan.

That in turn has provided an opportunity for Albert Johansson, who has stepped up his game in Petry’s absence.  It reminds one of the most famous headache in baseball history, when Wally Pipp asked to sit out a game due to an aching noggin.

Some guy named Gehrig took his place and never left the lineup.

Nearly a century later, Johansson and the Red Wings look to stay above water in the Eastern Conference when they play host to the Tampa By Lightning.

The Wings lost to Tampa Bay last Saturday, 5-1, and are four points out of the final playoff spot in the East. The Lightning are in sixth place, at the top of a scrum which sees 10 tems within eight points of each other,

Tampa Bay beat Chicago on Friday, 4-3, in overtime and perhaps the Red Wings can take advantage of the back-tio-back.

On the other hand, the Lightning had three power-play goals, one in the final minute of  regulation and the winner in the first minute of overtime, ending a two-game losing streak. And the Wings are well aware of their deficiencies on the penalty kill this season Nikita Kucherov had the game-winner, extending his points streak to 11 games, the longest current streak in the NHL.

Speaking of injuries, Patrick Kane and Tyler Motte are out for tonight’s game.

Why is Kane in the lineup, but not Soderblom?

I don’t think this article was proofread before posting. There’s a few spelling/grammar mistakes and the lineup is wrong. McLellan said the lineup is the same as last game.

Why is Fischer in the lineup? Not an NHLer
