Detroit Red Wings
The Daily: Talbot Has History of Playing Well for McLellan; Hischier Hurt.

Last night’s Detroit Hockey Now story about the Detroit Red Wings’ 2-0 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning focused on what’s improved on the team since Todd McLellan took the reins.
McLellan has the players believing in themselves. He’s given younger players, such as Marco Kasper, Albert Johansson and Jonathan Berggren, more opportunities. They have responded. Detroit’s penalty killers have played better.
But one overlooked area of improvement is Talbot’s goaltending. He is the first goalie to shut out the Lightning in 113 games. No one had done it since St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington beat them on 30-save shutout on Nov. 14, 2023.
Talbot has played for McLellan previously in Edmonton and San Jose.

Talbot’s 7-1-0 record since Jan. 2 at Columbus, ties Jake Oettinger (7) and Logan Thompson (7) for the most wins by a NHL goaltender to begin the 2025 calendar year.
Talbot (13-10-2, 2.90 GAA and .906 save percentage) extended his home winning streak to five-consecutive games dating back to Jan. 7 vs. Ottawa. He became the first Red Wings goaltender with a home winning streak of five games since Alex Nedeljkovic (5-0-0 from Nov. 9-Dec. 4, 2021).
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Early reports suggested Michael Rasmussen did not suffer a serious injury when he went crashing into the net on an empty-net goal. He was dripped by Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov.
When Jeff Petry is healthy, what will Detroit’s defense look like? Albert Johansson is not giving Todd McLellan to take him out of the lineup.
Bob Duff writes that Tomas Holmstrom and Johan Franzen were overlooked on the all Quarter-Century team.

They are four points out of an Eastern Conference wild card spot. Their next game is Monday against the Los Angeles Kings (26-14-6). The Kings, 2-4-1 in their last seven games, sit third in the Pacific Division.

Anyone has info on Brady Cleveland? He was a second round draft pick in 2023. Supposedly he’s a great skater and likes to punish opposing forwards. We need players with an edge
