The Daily: Red Wings Maybe Have 27.5% Shot at Playoffs; Sid Staying

Hockeyreference.com gives the Detroit Red Wings a 17% probability of qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons. Moneypuck.com pegs Detroit’s chances at 27.5%.
Regardless of what anyone believes, the Red Wings’ ability to make the postseason will come down to their ability to win on the road. Of the 32 games Detroit has remaining, 19 are away games.
What it all means is that Detroit’s upcoming four-game road trip to Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle is critical to the team’s chances.
The @EdmontonOilers since November 9th:
Record: 26-8-2
Points %: .750 (1st)
GF/GP: 3.69 (1st)
GA/GP: 2.50 (5th)
PP: 28.4% (6th)
PK: 85.9% (2nd)

Detroit is 11-4-1 since Todd McLellan took over as coach on Dec. 26. The team was eight points out of a playoff spot when Derek Lalonde was fired. Today, the team is two points out of a wildcard spot.
But the team was 1-2-1 on its most recent road trip. This Western trip will be as challenging, if not more challenging, than the recent trip that included stops in Florida, Tampa Bay, Dallas and Philadelphia.
Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver have a combined record of 78-50-20. That meams they record at least one point in 66.2% of the games they play.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Detroit prospect defenseman Axel Sandin Pellikka, playing in the Swedish Hockey League, has earned a place on Sweden’s national team.
With the Red Wings still shorthanded because of injury, coach Todd McLellan said he was leaning toward taking Dominik Shine on the road trip that starts Thursday in Edmonton.
Lucas Raymond has taken his game to a higher level this season. Is he officially a superstar?
Red Wings Extra

Right now a 25% chance sounds realistic. If I had to bet the farm I think NYR and Boston, will be the Western conference wild card teams. I expect the Wings will be right there with Ottawa just below the cut off.
