Red Wings Prospect Earns Rookie Honors
Plante is NCHC Rookie of the Week

The season didn’t start out all that well for Detroit Red Wings draftee Max Plante. However, things just keep getting better and better for him.
The 18-year-old forward was missing in action due to an upper-body injury as his freshman season with the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs got underway. He had two assists in his NCAA debut, but was also hurt in the game.
Once the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Plante was back on the ice in late November, he was picking up right where he left off. The player Detroit chose 47th overall in the 2024 NHL entry draft would pick up points in nine of his first 10 games for the Bulldogs. This would include a four-game goal streak.
Over the holidays, he was helping USA Hockey defend its IIHF World Junior Championship. Plante was a late addition to the team when it was determined he was fully healed from his injury.

Twice already this season, the freshman forward has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s Rookie of the Week.
Plante’s latest success story came as part of a seven-game point scoring streak in which he was collecting six goals and five assists. For the season, Plante has accounted for six goals and eight assists in 11 games. He’s showing a solid 18.8% shooting percentage and three power-play goals. Plante has registered five multi-point games this season, including in three of his past five games.
Hockey A Family Affair For Red Wings Prospect
A native of Hermantown, Minn., Plante has a natural affinity for the Bulldogs. His father, former NHL forward Derek Plante, was a Hobey Baker Award finalist with Minnesota-Duluth in 1992-93. Derek Plante was a Stanley Cup winner with the 1998-99 Dallas Stars.

Among Max’s teammates with the current Bulldogs is his older brother Zam, a 2022 Pittsburgh Penguins draftee.
“It wasn’t always ‘hockey, hockey, hockey” Max told thebarkumd.com. “But we definitely had moments where our lives revolve around it.”
