How Sweep It Is! Red Wings End Trip With Shootout Win

When it’s good, it’s very good, and the Detroit Red Wings are that good going into the 4 Nations break next week.
They finished their latest four-game road trip by winning their seventh in a row, 5-4, in a shootout win over theĀ Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena
Patrick Kane. in his second game since coming off injured reserve, set an NHL record with his 53rd shootout goal toĀ decide it for the Red Wings, who moved back into seventh place in the Eastern Conference after temporarily sinking to ninth after Tampa Bay and Boston won earlier in the evening.
The sweep marked the Red Wings’ first four-game road sweep since 1996.
McLellan Impressed With Effort
It marked the second time in 20 games behind the bench that the Wings have won seven in a row under Todd McLellan, and in a postgame interview he sounded as pleasantly surprised as any fan.
“To go home with eight points in the bank. I’m not sure that we thought we would get that when we left, “McLellan said. “But we chipped away and chipped away.”
The Red Wings had a pair of power-play goals, one by Moritz Seider in his 300th career game.
“Obviously, it feels good to get a goal,” he said. “Other than that, I’m really happy just with the outcome. I mean, we just have seven in a row, again, swept the road trip.”
Jonatan Berggren also scored on the power play for Detroit, which also got goals from Elmer Soderblom ane Lucas Raymond.
The Red Wings coughed up a 4-2 lead in the third period, but Kane won it with the only goal in the shootout, lifting the puck past Seattle netminder Joey Daccord.
“What a trip,” Kane said..”The guys have been playing great. Obviously, I missed some time there, but it was fun to come back in and be part of a couple wins and, man, I mean, the team is just feeling confident right now, finding ways to win.”
The Wings play one more game before the break, a Saturday afternoon game with Tampa Bay. The Wings lost at Tampa on their last road trip, an overall effort that McLellan called “average.”
Asked to grade this trip, McLellan said with a wry grin: “Above average.”
